Double Dare (1985-?) Double dare is undoubtedly the phenomenon that made Nickelodeon what it is today. The rules go something like this: Each round starts off with a toss-up physical challenge. Whoever wins gets $10 and control of the game. Host Marc Summers (Jason Harris in Double Dare 2000) asks the winning team a question. If they don't know the answer or think the other team doesn't have a clue, they can dare them to answer it for double the dollars. But they have to be careful because they can double dare the first team back for 4 times the amount. Then, they either have to answer the question or take a physical challenge. In round 2, dollar values are doubled. The winner of the game moves on to the obstacle course, where they navigate through 8 obstacles and they win a prize for each obstacle. If they make it through all 8 obstacles, they win the grand prize. Double Dare history On October 6, 1986, the first episode of Double Dare was taped at WHYY studios in Philadelphia. In 1987, Nickelodeon decided to create a short-lived weekend edition called Super Sloppy Double Dare, which was cancelled after about 20 episodes. One year later, in 1988, Fox bought syndication rights from Nickelodeon, so they created another short-lived edition called Family Double Dare. Because Fox wanted more adult material on their network, Family Double Dare was canned after 13 episodes. But the good news: the original Double Dare was still in production.

Double Trouble 1984-1985 The show centers around twin sisters Allison and Kate Foster. They begin as 17-year-old high school students in Des Moines. By the start of Season 2, they are young women pursuing their dreams in New York City.

Down to Earth (1984-1987) Originally on: TBS (30 min.) Status: Ended Premiered: March 1, 1984 Show Categories: Comedy, Children The premise of this fondly remembered sitcom from the '80s, which ran on WTBS (before they dropped the "W") was best summed up with some words from the theme song... "Back in the days of Valentino, we know a maid named Ethyl was so bright and alive. But she was struck down by a trolley, golly; said goodbye in nineteen-twenty-and-five. Ethyl in Heaven awaited patiently to earn her wings and be an angel fancy free. Sixty years later the opportunity to help a family came. Back down to Earth to teach the Prestons lessons -- Richard, Lissy, Dwayne, and J.J. too..." In an attempt to earn her wings, Ethel is placed with the Preston family, where she acts as maid. Richard Preston, a widower and realtor, is the head of the clan. Duane is the class-conscious teenage son and Lissy is the teenage daughter. The youngest of the Preston clan is J.J., the only one who knows that Ethel is an angel, since she was the answer to his prayers. Over the years, there were a number of cast changes. First and foremost was ditzy next-door-neighbor Candy Carlyse, who popped in from time to time for comic relief. Initially, angel Mr. Divine watched over Ethel's shenanigans; but soon Mr. Lester Luster replaced him (though he was quickly dropped from the series too). They were later replaced with Jake, Ethel's former fiance (whom she left at the alter), a con-man who wound up turning his life around and becoming an angel. After Jake was dropped from the series, wacky Stanley McCloud watched over Ethel. It's also notable that this is the second series in which Dick Sergeant replaced a main character (the first being Bewitched). In the first season, Richard Preston was played by Stephen Johnson.

So along with their Uncle Jesse, their lovely cousin Daisy, and their good friend and mechanic, Cooter they stop every one of Boss' schemes. They are also fortunate that Hogg's right hand man, Roscoe Coltrane who is also the Sheriff is not very competent, and that his Deputy though loyal to Hogg and Roscoe is not corrupt and has a thing for Daisy, is a tad clumsy. During the 5th season, Tom Wopat and John Schneider who play Luke and Bo had a contract dispute with the show, so they were written off with them at the NASCAR circuit, so cousins, Coy and Vance came to stay with Uncle Jesse and help him and Daisy with their encounters with Hogg.
